Largest ancestries in the United States and Canada

Map of the dominant self-indentified ethnic orgins of ancestors in the United States and Canada. Actual physical origins of ancestors may be different.

This is the first map which combines the data about the ancestries in the USA and Canada. I based it on the US Census 2000 and the Candian Census 2006 (the last censuses which asked about the ethnicity of the ancestries)

Shaded color represents the largest number of respondents (a plurality) from sample. Areas with the largest "American" ancestry populations were mostly settled by Germans, English, Italians, French, Welsh, Scottish and Irish.
