Second American Civil War

After the most controversial election in the US history with the lowest voter turnout ever of just 20%, and two candidates claiming victory for themselves and their respective party. The USA that was crumbling since the “New Washington Accident“ (on the 20^th August 2081 which marked the end of the rebelling US colony on the moon), finally collapsed with the declaration of Independence of the “Federated States of America“ in the north on the 2^nd December 2110 and of the “Neo-Confederate States of America“ in the South on the 3^rd December 2110. The disorganized USA and its few remaining military forces which did not changed their side, still maintained power in the western parts of country in which the USA became eventually a widely hated military dictatorship, which loosed more and more control over the west after most states there also declared their Independence and their will to fight against the remaining USA which was officially dissolved on the 27^th March 2112.

But the civil war historians know as the “2^nd American Civil War“ or “North American War“ which eventually evolved into a nuclear civil war and paved the way to the 3^rd World War, was not so much about the USA but about the conflicts between the FSA and NCSA and the emerging of the Deseret lead North American Union, which later unified North America.

It's generally agreed on that the conflict started on the 1^st January 2111 when troops of the FSA crossed the border to the NCSA, and ended on the 25^th July 2120 when the FSA and its allies surrendered to the emerging highly nuclear armed North American Union and its founder states: Deseret, California and Cascadia.

Overall 30 million people died in the conflict and Washington DC, New York, Dallas, Houston, Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Boston and San Antonio were hit by nuclear weapons (you might wonder why no western city was hit, that's because the nuclear exchange was mostly between the FSA and NCSA, the emerging NAU threatened the FSA in 2120 with a new nuclear exchange but the FSA tired of war and death, surrendered)

Government: originally a Federal/Confederal presidential non-partisan republic until they loosed against the FSA and were turned into a heavily decentralized Confederal Union

notes: the NCSA in 2117 can be called a nuclear power but they're forced to disarm after they loosed in 2115 against the FSA lost a bunch of territories and money. But they're still happy that the FSA did not occupy all of them (after all the FSA has not enough troops to do that). They citizens in the NCSA live in 2117 actually a quit peaceful life, there are just a few clashes in the west and the government and its secret police puts all the non-citizens aka blacks who think about a new black Revolution into work camps and the others into reservations. But every member states has its one policy to decide who's black, after all most of the americans are mixed in 2117 so it's not clear if a 1/2 or 1/4 white/hispanic/asian/native should be considered as a citizen. The countries government is quit weak in 2117 and so some historians will later consider the Empire of Texas (a spanish speaking country), the Republic of Arkansas, the Union of Mississippi-Alabama, the Republic of Louisiana and the Republic of Florida (also spanish speaking) as independent countries. The different republics own the large and main industries.

Deseret – California – Cascadia Alliance (later known as North American Union)

(they never declared war, but they're effectively at war with all their neighbors in 2117 and they claim that they will unite all of North America)

Government: originally a mormon Theocracy with a Military council, since 2112 a all-christian Theocracy with a Military council

notes: Deseret was originally a little fringe state that controlled just a few villages and cities they were feared by their neighbors because the government wanted only mormons in their country so they expulsed or killed anyone who was not converted. In 2112 a more sane government took over with the goal the unite all christians and to build a strong christian theocracy in North America. They have no problems with natives and asians besides whites and half white mixed people as long as they're christians, but its one of their goals to expulse all Jews to Israel and all blacks to Africa and so the established reservations for the blacks. And ghettos for the Jews. Deseret is a nuclear power. Their economic policy follows distributist principles.

In California the people speak mostly spanish but in the northern and eastern regions the population actually speaks different forms of transitory languages between spanish and english. The Californians enjoy a high standard of living and are cosmopolitan in the north and ultra-nationalist in the south. The Southern regions have actually more in common with Quebec in their dislike for the Anglo's so someone might wonder how California still remains united. The Californians actually dislike their main ally Deseret, but they see Deseret as the smaller evil compared to the FSA or NCSA. The economic system varies from region to region

notes: Cascadia posses no nuclear weapons and is generally considered a peaceful country even if they're fighting against Canada and the Northwest American Republic. Cascadians are generally open minded and cosmopolitans with a huge commitment to the environment and individual freedom. Like the Californians they actually dislike their main ally Deseret, but they also see Deseret as the smaller evil compared to the FSA or NCSA. The economic system follows democratic confederal and communalist principles so that the whole economy is put under the local control of the people.

If they just had enough warships they would be actually a more serious foe, but so Newfoundland and other canadian islands are quit safe compared to the mainland. well what to say about Mexico? There are actually three different official governments in northern Mexico and all of them claim to be the one and only true Mexican state. But in reality they're all just a bunch of drug dealing military dictatorships (thanks to the collapse of their main trading partner USA). South Mexico is controlled by the anarchist Councils of Good Government
